Securing the next century
Central to our family legacy is the flagship Tyrone County GAA project that has been started, very appropriately in the GAA’s 125th year, at Garvaghey. We own the land there (43 acres); have Full Planning Approval for our entire project; and have completed our site-wide groundworks.
who is garvaghey for?
- The Tyrone GAA family but also other gaels right across Ulster and beyond
- The men and women, boys and girls of Tyrone’s GAA Clubs and schools
- Our County players, at all levels and in all codes
- All of us with an interest in the GAA
what will it contain?
- Five full-sized, fully-floodlit sand-carpet GAA pitches
- A full-sized “4G” floodlit, artificial pitch and a drills area
- Full team preparation; changing; and development facilities
- County GAA administration; meeting space; and archives
- Recreational; cultural; and heritage space and resources
- Spectator facilities and significant car-parking
why do we need it?
- Although we have 80 GAA pitches in Tyrone our needs analysis tells us we currently need about 130
- On the schools side alone we have 250 GAA teams … but only five fit-for-purpose schools GAA pitches
- Our Tyrone; Ulster; and national GAA strategies all prioritise increased participation in gaelic games: Garvaghey is central to achieving that
- Tyrone’s population is projected to grow by a fifth from 2001 to 2021: GAA-related demands will increase
what will it deliver?
- A fully-integrated Tyrone County GAA “heart-and-soul”, bringing together all aspects of gaelic games and culture
- Unmatched facilities for our young people … and for those who have moved beyond the games
- An engine to drive Tyrone GAA through the 21st Century
- A statement about something that’s important to us all
